Mai-Kim T. Dang is an independent filmmaker working on a documentary
regarding the absence of African languages being taught in the US, as well as
the future of cinema for African-Americans. In her quest for a broader network to help get this project out in the world she reached out to me asking if I would help. Clearly as an African-American actress, I am undoubtedly passionate about the future of cinema for African Americans.
Being an independent filmmaker myself, I know firsthand the challenges that come along with breathing life into a project. After talking to many others who had previously walked this road that I was currently traveling on...the one common denominator was the need for financial resources. It's no secret that having capital makes a difference...in many cases, a BIG difference and I found that this was also true in Mai-Kim's case.
That said, I humbly ask that you please share this information with any and everyone who you feel can be of assistance to Mai-Kim and her project. Anything as simple as a tweet to help bring more awareness or sharing her kickstarter link https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1755737190/12-bar-blues-web-documentary-series to help raise money for this documentary would be greatly appreciated.
Mai-Kim has not been shy in regards to expressing how very special this project is to her. So far she has shot and edited everything herself and knows that she's capable of doing a lot more with the right support. Hint, hint!! :)
Mai-Kim would like to thank you all in advance and encourages us to have a great Black History Month.
